A Hurrah to Syrah

Post image

Syrah (or Shiraz) is a dark-skinned grape variety originating in France, though it is now grown all over the world. Found to be a crossbreed between the Dureza and Mondeuse Blanche varieties, the wine is known for its deep, full-bodied flavor and peppery notes. Used as both a single varietal or as a blend, we can’t get enough of that rich red spice!

Here are some of our in-store favorites:

Ojai Vineyard Santa Barbara County Syrah ($33) Stewed plum, inky minerals, violets and olive. Classic and poised.

Chateau de Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone ($22) Sandalwood, dark fruit, and flowers lend to a soft, dry finish.

Altizi Cab Franc ($50) Smoky berries, licorice and velvety tannins. Full-bodied, with a bite.
