A Look Back At Giving Back — Our Social Responsibility Report Card 2019

We call ourselves “a neighborhood wine and spirits shop.” There’s a reason why “neighborhood” is there. We pride ourselves in giving back to our community whenever we can. With Giving Tuesday (12/03) this week, we figured it would be the perfect time to take stock of what we’ve done—sharing our activities publicly keeps us accountable by benchmarking each contribution. Our goal is to do more every year and to inspire you to join us—because giving feels great.

The Humane Society of NY
This year’s Spring Cleaning Linen Drive was a huge success! With your help, we filled boxes of lightly used linens and towels to use in the animal shelter providing comfort to our furry friends.

PS 11 School
We donated a Woman Winemaker Weekender to The Purvis J. Behan Elementary School’s auction, to support their quest to raise funds for arts and science programs.

The Ali Forney Center
To celebrate Pride Month, we donated $400 to support efforts to combat LGBTQ youth homelessness. We also highlighted the organization in our social media throughout the month.

Dorothy Bennet Mercy Center
We donated wine to be served at an event supporting DBMC’s efforts to provide programs that empower families in an urban community to achieve well-being and self-sufficiency.

We Bike NYC
To pair with our Tour de France themed Wine Club in August we donated $50 to support this org’s goal of empowering women across NYC to bike regardless of skill, speed, and riding style.

Green Hill School
We supported this small local school by donating to their annual fundraiser (for the fourth year in a row!).

ICL Tillary Street Women’s Shelter
Our neighbor on Myrtle Ave, Jill Lindsey, hosted a hit fundraiser with their Local Love event which benefited the ICL Tillary Street Women’s Shelter to supply necessities for the shelter’s residents. We donated wine to the auction.

Thanksgiving Turkeys on Myrtle Ave
We donated $250 to the incredible Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership so that families in our community could have a full holiday meal.

We’ve still got some giving left to match last year’s benchmark and this year’s goals. We’ll make a donation to the community garden, Myrtle Village Green, for sure.

We set goals every year and are always looking for worthy organizations to support. Nominate your favorite local charity and we’ll consider adding it to our 2020 list! Email your suggestions to cheers@shoptipsy.com!

Because giving is fun all year round.
