Honey from the beeswax, tart green apple, and a long star fruit finish.
Musky, spicy, beeswax, honey and savory on the nose. Waxy tart green apple, honey remains, long tart star fruit finish, and clean minerality on the palate. NY State’s only Chenin Blanc!. All estate grown fruit from the Massoud family. Eric Asimov (NY TImes) praises this wine as consistently one of the best US Chenins out there.
The Massouds came here (1983) as IBM employees (husband originally from Lebanon, but a Francophile, and wife from Pfaltz) who had learned to make wine in Kuwait by necessity (dry country). They planted grapes on Long Island as a way to be close to the city and make wine. Their son Kareem is the winemaker now.
