The Dark & Stormy is the national drink of Barbados and word has it that name came from a sailor looking into his cocktail glass and exclaiming that it was the, “colour of a cloud only a fool or a dead man would sail under.” Despite that foreboding description, they are tasty and so simple, try one for yourself:
Dark & Stormy
- 2 oz Kraken Black Spiced Caribbean Rum ($24)
- .75 oz fresh lime juice
- Ginger beer
- Ice
Add ice to a highball glass and pour in the rum and lime juice. Add a splash of ginger beer to the top and garnish with a lime wedge; enjoy!
Pro tip: If you want to get fancy, try layering your cocktail for a dark to light effect. First pour in the lime juice, then carefully pour the ginger beer down the side so it doesn’t mix. Lastly, float the dark rum on top. Voilà!
