Daiquiris were the perfect drink to kick off our summer cocktail series (which is happening every Saturday through August). Fun fact: This original kind of daiquiri was only introduced to the US in the early 1900s and reached popularity in the 1940s. It was one of Ernest Hemmingway’s and John F. Kennedy’s favorite cocktails. Here’s the recipe:
Old School Daiquiris
- 2 oz Owney’s Original Small Batch Rum ($38)
- .75 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 tsp sugar
- Ice
Pour the sugar and lime juice into a cocktail shaker and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add the rum and fill shaker with ice; shake well for 10 seconds and strain into a separate glass. Serve over ice is desired.
