Everyone loves a hot toddy. We do, for sure. But what about a gin hot toddy? Boy, are we happy that our friends at the New York Distilling Company introduced us to this new winter favorite. They used their Dorothy Parker Gin ($34) and warmed our bones on a December evening. For that, we are grateful!
Here’s the recipe so you can make it yourself!
Mrs. Parker’s Hot Toddy
Recipe courtesy of Diane Wade from New York Distilling Company
- 2 oz. Dorothy Parker American gin
- .75 oz. fresh lemon juice
- .75 oz. spiced simple syrup (see recipe below)
- 1 oz. apple cider
- Dash of bitters
Spiced simple syrup: Heat equal parts sugar and water on the stove or in the microwave until the sugar is dissolved. While the syrup is warm, add in any spices you’d like to incorporate (cinnamon, cloves, allspice, rosemary, star anise, etc.) and let steep 5-10 minutes, then strain the syrup off of the botanicals.
For the drink: Add all of the ingredients to a mug and top with a splash of hot water to taste. Top with grated nutmeg (optional) and garnish with a fresh lemon wheel or other favorite toddy garnishes, such as cinnamon sticks or star anise.
