Erstwhile is a Brooklyn and Mexico based-and woman owned importer of mezcal. Yuan Ji left her job in law and founded it with her partner Kevin, a former rare book and map specialist. Their mission is to support small mezcaleros- and highlight women in the industry- with fair wages and practices and business transparency.

This mezcal has notes of butterscotch, black tea, banana, and roasted maguey. It’s a little sweet and a little creamy with savory, spicy, and peppery hints, in a way that reminds us of smoked meats and Texas style barbecue followed by lingering, resonating notes of ash and soft smoke on the palate.
