Earth Month Spotlight: Split Spirits

Post image

Founded by a group of friends wanting to create something new and exciting- Split Spirits specializes in making high-quality, handcrafted whiskey while minimizing their environmental impact.

Their commitment to sustainability is reflected in their production practices and involvement in the local community. They believe that using organic ingredients produces a higher quality spirit while also limiting the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Split Spirits partners with farmers that use regenerative organic practices and work with Appalachian Gap Distillery to transform grains using renewable energy. Regenerative organic farming is an approach to agriculture that prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem function, resulting in more resilient and productive farming systems. This involves a range of practices, including no-till or reduced tillage, crop rotations, cover cropping, agroforestry, and animal integration.

In addition to reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation by sourcing ingredients locally whenever possible, water conservation and waste reduction are also core tenants of their sustainability efforts.
